How It
Works
No grinding. No excavator. No crew. One person. One machine. Stumps and entire root systems pulled clean from the ground — in minutes.
Four Steps. One Machine.
From setup to extraction, one operator can remove a full stump and root ball in under 15 minutes — no rentals, no crew, no experience required.
Set the 14″×14″×3/8″ steel base plate over the stump. The freestanding A-frame tripod locks into position with no vehicle or tree anchoring needed. Setup takes under 2 minutes.
Wrap the Grade 70 transport chain around the base of the stump or beneath the root ball. Connect to the winch hook — no tools, no complicated rigging required.
Power up the electric winch using the wireless remote. Apply steady vertical tension. The tripod geometry focuses all force directly above the root system for maximum extraction.
The stump and full root ball lift free — whole. No grinding residue, no partial removal, no regrowth risk. Load it out. Clean hole. Job done.
& 5,000 LB Pull Capacity
Real Machine. Real Results.
No staging. No tricks. Watch the StumpHog™ do exactly what it was built to do — from the first prototype pull to the next-generation StumpHog™ II in the field.
Why the Design Actually Works
The StumpHog™ isn't brute force — it's mechanical advantage applied precisely where it's needed. Every component was chosen to maximize extraction while minimizing effort.
The A-frame centers all pulling force directly above the root system, converting winch tension into pure vertical lift — the most efficient extraction vector possible.
No vehicle anchor needed. The 3/8″ steel base distributes load across the ground, making the unit fully self-contained and deployable anywhere.
3,500–5,000 lbs of continuous electric pull with a wireless remote. No stalled engines, no jerking — consistent, controlled force every time.
Transport-grade chain wraps under the root ball and transfers load evenly. The stump comes out intact — roots and all — leaving a clean hole.
Grinders leave roots to rot and regrow. The StumpHog™ pulls the entire mass, permanently eliminating sinkholes, fungal spread, and regrowth.
Breaks down and sets up without tools. One person transports, assembles, operates, and loads out — practical for solo landscaping professionals.
Every landscaper, arborist, and homeowner faces this problem. The StumpHog™ is the first portable winch-based extraction system built for this market.
Grinder rentals average $300–$500/day. Excavator calls run $800+. The StumpHog™ eliminates both with a one-time purchase that pays for itself on the first job.
The StumpHog™ winch extraction system and tripod geometry are covered under a provisional patent application filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
